Google has started deleting inactive accounts that have not been used for 2 years

Google announced it will delete inactive accounts from 2 years or more, starting from December 2023.

According to Google, deleting inactive accounts for at least 2 years aims to prevent security risks. Old accounts tend to use shared passwords with other accounts and rarely implement new security measures like two-step verification. This increases the risk of phishing attacks, account takeover, or spam. The new policy takes effect immediately, but Google will only begin deleting accounts from December 2023. The company plans to send multiple warnings to users and conduct "cleanup" of inactive accounts in multiple phases. Specifically, accounts inactive for at least 2 years will receive a warning email. Google will disable the account if the user does not log in within 60 days. If after 60 days the account remains inactive, the user will receive a second email allowing login within the next 60 days before the account is permanently deleted. In total, users will have 120 days to keep their account and avoid deletion. When an account is disabled, all services including Gmail, Drive, Docs, YouTube, Google Photos, Meet, and Calendar will be unavailable. However, this new Google policy only applies to personal accounts; business and school accounts will not be affected. If an account is disabled, users can use the "Inactive Account Manager" to handle and transfer account data to a new account.
